I have often heard people say "old people always talk about their aches and pains and can't have a decent conversation" and I tend to agree with them. Now I know why
that is the main topic of conversation. That is what dominates their every day, where young people have stories about their job, work, new car, and politics and how it makes them part of society. My achievement yesterday was shopping, cooking a cowboy casserole then going to the casino to play in the slot tournament. Shopping was first, waited on a shopping cart to get around the to get in the store (Electric store cart) Didn't take mine as I went with a friend, got back and started getting stuff ready for casserole, called for browned ground beef, in the process I dropped half of it on the floor and ended up cooking most of that for the cat, Peeled potatoes, that was OK but the crock pot was too small for the 6 it called for so 3 had to do. Forgot the onion till most was in the pot but remembered in time to get it chopped and in. totally forgot the red beans until I checked the recipe again while it cooked on high, recipe called for 7 to 9 hours on low, but a couple hours later I had some before going to the casino. It wasn't done but the beans and ground beef were already cooked as were the canned tomatoes so it was eatable. Left for casino, turned off the pot and decided that was best that I would turn it back on before going to bed. I did lousy in the slot tourney but played slots till 10:30 then came home. Casserole still wasn't done but I ate some more anyway then when I went to bed I turned it back on, low this time figuring it would be done by morning.
Got up this morning and the potatoes still are not done.
That was the excitement for the day, Pain always present and caused me to sit a number of times while preparing the ingredients for the casserole.
This picture shows me doing a bit more demanding task but still not a great conversation topic as not many young people are capable of holding a conversation about tree removal from the top down. If they did this kind of work they might acknowledge pain. That tree I took down when I was only 69 If memory serves me right. But even then, I had to use a ladder to get to the first branches, unlike when I climbed a rope to reach them.
